APA: Articles

The examples found in the APA section are based on the style guide Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, 7th ed., 2020.

  • If the article has a DOI, include it in link format at the end of the citation.

Format

Author Last Name, Initials. (Year of publication). Title of article. Title of Journal, Volume(Issue, if available), page numbers. https://doi.org/xxxxxxx

Example:

Marchetti-Mercer, M. C. (2012). Those easily forgotten: The impact of emigration on those left behind. Family Process, 51(3), 376-390. https://doi.org/10.1111/j.1545-5300.2012.01407.x

  • If the article does not have a DOI, include the URL instead.
  • If possible, find a stable URL (also sometimes called document URL). Look for them in your article’s database record or abstract/details section.

  • If the article has a DOI, include it in link format at the end of the citation.

  • There is no period at the end of the citation.

  • If the article has a DOI assigned to it, include it at the end of the citation in link format.

  • Give the year and month for monthly magazines, and year, month, and day for weekly magazines.
  • If the article has a DOI, include it in link format.
  • If there’s no DOI, add the URL instead. Look for a stable URL (sometimes also called Document URL) in the database record or abstract/details section.

  • Put the title in the author position and continue in the same way as you would for that type of article.
  • If it’s an editorial, include [Editorial] after the title.
