Why use statistics?

Statistical sources can provide the data to back up your argument or research statement. They offer a different way of describing a situation or event.

Statistics will be a required component in many of your assignments, but as with all of your sources of information, you must be vigilant in evaluating the pertinence, reliability and currency of the statistics.

How to find statistics

  • Statista: This database’s purpose is to provide statistics and statistical reports on a wide variety of subjects. Enter keywords to start browsing.
  • Library Catalogue: To find books containing statistics, try adding the word “statistics” to your search when searching by keyword or by subject.
  • Article Databases: Enter your keywords in the search box. Add AND statistics after them.
